The Taj Mahal Magical Mystery wind chime features an ash wood top and windcatcher with a beautiful, rich teak finish that is weather-resistant and 10 high-quality silver aluminum tubes that will not rust when exposed to the elements. Measuring 39-inches in overall length, these beautiful chimes feature a musical phenomenon known as Octave Doubling. Here's how it works you remember the Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do scale from the Sound of Music? The "Do" notes that come at the start and end of this scale are the same note, an octave apart. Notes separated by an octave are considered harmonically equivalent and "ring" together in a way that adds a pleasing sound to the music. Our Magical Mystery Chimes take this theory to the extreme - each note of this chime is matched with its "octave double. " Never before used in windchimes, this special tuning creates a heightening of the harmonics, creating a song that must be heard to be believed. When doubled, the notes of a North Indian Raga scale sound as grand as the Taj Mahal. This chime’s sound is mysterious and peaceful. It’s as lovely as the story behind the famous palace. Inspired by love, an emperor had the Taj Mahal built in memory of his beloved wife during the 17th century. Enjoy the complex layering of this calming chime in your home or garden. More than 30-years ago, the first Woodstock Chime was created by founder and owner Garry Kvistad from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. As a professional musician and instrument designer, he was fascinated by the Scales of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can't be played on a modern piano. Garry had the idea to cut and tune the lawn chair chime tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our bestselling wind chimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Percussion, in 1979 and it remains a family-owned business in New York's Hudson Valley.
